Click on the picture to view the album. http://www.chianfed.org/mos/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=301&Itemid=36 On Saturday, April 14th the Executive Council of the United Chian Societies of USA and Canada, (UCSA) together with local representatives held their quarterly meeting at the Chian Federation's Cultural Center in Astoria New York. The CSA C represents Chian organizations throughout the USA and Canada with more than 5000 members. It has been customary to hold the spring meeting in New York on the eve prior to our annual Greek Parade along New York City's Fifth Avenue.Among other items on the Agenda was this year's 5th International Chian Convention to be held in Chios, this summer between August 2nd and 6th. This year's Convention is dedicated to the Chian youth and the Chian Federation urges all Chians to make every effort to attend and to connect our young adults and their children to their roots in CHIOS. We worked with our hosting provider to restore the site to its most recent state from a backup. For the most part the site is back up and running. Βασιλάκη Η Χιακή Ομοσπονδία τιμά, με το 29ο Ομήρειο Βραβείο, τον Μόνιμο Αντιπρόσωπο της Ελλάδας στον Οργανισμό των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, πρέσβη Αδαμάντιο Θ. Βασιλάκη, την Παρασκευή 24 Νοεμβρίου 2006, στο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο της Χιακής Ομοσπονδίας στην Αστόρια της Νέας Υόρκης. Το Ομήρειο Βραβείο καθιερώθηκε από τη Χιακή Ομοσπονδία το 1977 και απονέμεται σε ανθρώπους που δημόσια υπερασπίζονται τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα, τους νόμους και τα δημοκρατικά ιδεώδη και εργάζονται για την σύσφιγξη των σχέσεων μεταξύ Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών Αμερικής και Ελλάδας. Ο Πρέσβης Αδαμάντιος Θ. Βασιλάκης αντιπροσωπεύει την Ελλάδα στον ΟΗΕ από το 2002. Πριν το διορισμό του στη σημερινή του θέση, ο κ. Βασιλάκης διετέλεσε Γενικός Διευθυντής για Ευρωπαϊκές Υποθέσεις και Διευθυντής του Κέντρου Ανάλυσης και Σχεδιασμού του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών της Ελλάδας. Ο Πρέσβης κ. Βασιλάκης γεννήθηκε στη Χίο. Earlier this month, elections took place (press release in Greek (http://www.chianfed.org/mos/content/view/291/36/)) and the newly elected Executive Council under the leadership of George Almiroudis promises to continue and expand on the successes of the outgoing Executive Council which managed with the guidance of President Alex Doulis to re-invent the Chian Federation from a parochial, ethnic, fraternal group into an active community-based organization with strong ties to the local community. We are well aware of the shortcomings of our organization and will strive to address them during the next three years. One of the areas we will attempt to improve is communication with our members, Chian-Americans and our visitors to this website. The Chian Federation web site this year celebrates its 11th year on the Internet and although these last few months it has remained largely unchanged, in the background we have been working on a complete overhaul which will make this site safer from hackers, easier to update and more interactive for you, our visitors. Το απερχόμενο Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο υπό την προεδρία του κ. Αλέξανδρου Ντούλη μετά από μια γόνιμη τριετή υπηρεσία υπέβαλε την παραίτησή του στην Εφορευτική Επιτροπή. Η Γενική Εκλογική Συνέλευση ευχαρίστησε τον κ. Ντούλη για τις υπηρεσίες που προσέφερε στην Χιακή Ομοσπονδία και τον παρακάλεσε να παραμείνει σε μια άλλη θέση στο Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο. Σε πνεύμα συνεργασίας και ομόνοιας και με συναινετικές διαδικασίες και χωρίς αντίπαλο εξελέγη νέος πρόεδρος της Χιακής Ομοσπονδίας ο κ. Γεώργιος Αλμυρούδης, ο οποίος και κατά το παρελθόν, επί τετραετία, υπηρέτησε την Χιακή Ομοσπονδία από την ίδια θέση. Αναφέρθηκε στην αναβάθμιση που έχει επέλθει στην περιοχή που βρίσκεται το κτήριο της Χιακής Ομοσπονδίας, και υποσχέθηκε ότι θα εργασθεί με τον καλύτερο τρόπο για την αξιοποίησή της. Η συνεδρίαση έληξε σε πνεύμα αγάπης με τις ευχές όλων προς το νέο Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο, να εργασθούν για την πρόοδο της Χιακής παροικίας, της Ομογένειας γενικότερα και της αγαπημένης μας Πατρίδας.
